The Friendship System in Yet Another Zombie Survivors

Small, permanent Cash and Specialization bonuses earned by completing Camp missions.

Friendship System Guide

Friendship is the second permanent meta-progression layer that arrived with Yet Another Zombie Survivors version 1.0. The first is the Training tree, refundable and mode-scoped. The second is Friendship, account-scoped and mission-fed. Every time you complete a Camp mission — main story, survivor personal quest, or repeatable side — you earn a small amount of Friendship with the relevant survivor. That Friendship permanently increases the Cash and Specialization points you receive at the end of each run. The bonus is small, it stacks across all nine survivors, and it never resets between prestige loops.

The studio framed it as “less grind, more lore.” The mechanical framing is a permanent multiplier on the two resources you already care about: Cash, which fuels Training Points, and Specialization, which unlocks meta items and progression rewards. Friendship does not change combat, does not drop new weapons, and does not give you a fourth squad member. It quietly makes every future run a little more profitable.

What Friendship actually gives you

Each completed mission grants a small permanent bonus to end-of-run Cash and Specialization gains, applied at the bonus calculation screen you see between runs. The bonus is per-survivor, meaning SWAT Friendship only boosts the Cash and Specialization you bank when SWAT was on the squad. The bonus does stack: full Friendship with all nine survivors gives you noticeably thicker meta rewards than a brand-new account, and the gap is large enough that Friendship is worth chasing on every survivor, not just your favorite two.

The studio designed Friendship as a slow drip rather than a one-shot unlock. New missions arrive a few at a time, and the per-mission reward is calibrated so that maxing every survivor’s Friendship takes the same multi-week effort that maxing the Training tree would. Players who already enjoy Camp missions for the storytelling will hit max Friendship incidentally. Players who dislike the Camp can chase it via repeatable missions only and still arrive at the same cap eventually.

How Friendship is earned

Friendship comes from three sources, all surfaced through the Camp:

  1. Main story missions. There are 15 consecutive story missions in 1.0, all surfaced through the Briefing Room. Each completed story mission grants a Friendship bump with every survivor present during the run, because the studio treats story as a shared event. Story is the fastest single source of Friendship because each completion moves the meter a meaningful amount.

  2. Survivor personal questlines. Each of the nine survivors offers five personal missions, surfaced randomly after each run. Personal missions grant Friendship only with that survivor. This is the per-survivor Friendship path. Forty-five personal missions in total, all surfaced through the Mission Log when they rotate in.

  3. Repeatable missions. After you finish a survivor’s personal questline, they offer repeatable quests that grant small Friendship bumps every time. There are 19 repeatable missions across the roster. Repeatables are the grinding endpoint: once the personal questline is complete, repeatables are how you push a survivor’s Friendship from “personal story finished” to “true max.”

Where to track Friendship

Friendship is tracked in the Camp. The Friendship screen shows a list of all nine survivors, each with a Friendship meter and the rough position of the next mission or repeatable. The Mission Log, also in the Camp, shows every available mission (main, personal, repeatable) and which survivor it grants Friendship with. The two screens talk to each other: accepting a personal mission in the Log shows up as the next available quest for that survivor in the Friendship screen.

The Mission Log is also where you can manually retry missions you have not completed yet, which matters because the Camp’s mission rotation is random. If the Camp offers you a Tank personal quest you cannot finish today, decline it; it will rotate back in a few runs. The Log tracks the history so you do not accidentally repeat a story mission you already cleared.

Friendship and missions: the order that matters

Friendship stacks additively across survivors, but within a single survivor the Friendship meter scales with mission tier. Story missions grant more than personal missions, personal missions grant more than repeatables. The most efficient Friendship path is therefore:

  1. Finish every story mission available to you. Story Friendship grants are shared across the squad, so each completed mission gives you a partial bump with all nine survivors at once. This is the path that moves the meters fastest.

  2. After story runs out, chase personal questlines for survivors you actually play. SWAT, Engineer, Tank, and Huntress personal missions matter most because they are on the squad most often. Medic, Mechanic, Pyro, Ghost, and Ranger personal missions matter less urgently but still feed the meta.

  3. Once every personal questline is complete, fall back on repeatables. Repeatables grant the smallest Friendship bumps but are unlimited, so they are how you push a single survivor’s Friendship to true max when you want the cleanest Cash and Specialization numbers.

Why Friendship matters in 1.0

Cash and Specialization are the two resources that determine how fast your Training tree fills and how fast your account-level unlocks arrive. Without Friendship, every run pays you the same flat meta reward regardless of how much lore you have cleared. With Friendship, every run pays you a small bonus that scales with how deeply you have engaged with the Camp, the story, and the survivor cast.

The bonus is small enough that one new player run still beats one veteran run if the veteran is running a worse squad. But over dozens and hundreds of runs, the cumulative Friendship bonus is significant. It is also the only meta progression that you cannot refund: Training Points can be re-spent, but Friendship is permanent.

The other reason Friendship matters is that it makes the Camp feel less like a side feature and more like a meta layer you want to engage with. Players who skip every story mission and only grind repeatables still see the meters move. Players who clear the entire story see the meters move fastest. Either way, the Camp becomes a meaningful stop between runs rather than a flavor detour.

Friendship and prestige

Prestige, the opt-in harder virus added alongside the 1.0 features, does not reset Friendship. Your Friendship bonuses carry over. This is intentional: the studio wanted one of the meta layers to feel permanent so players chasing prestige still feel the cumulative progress they built up across the normal curve.

If you prestige before maxing Friendship, you still keep the Friendship you earned. Prestige will not give you new Friendship; it just makes the runs harder. So if you want the cleanest meta account, max Friendship first and prestige second. See the prestige and Torments page for the broader opt-in layer.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not decline story missions because the reward looks weak. Story missions grant the largest single Friendship bumps and apply to the whole squad. Skipping them to grind repeatables is a slow path to the same Friendship ceiling.

Do not assume Friendship only helps one survivor. The bonus is per-survivor, but the Cash and Specialization you bank are the same regardless. Friendship with SWAT boosts your meta even if you are running a Ranger-led squad that run.

Do not ignore repeatables once personal questlines end. They are the only unlimited Friendship source and they are how you push meters to true max. Many players stop playing the Camp after their last personal mission and then wonder why their meta feels capped.

For the missions that drive Friendship in the first place, read the Mission Log explainer. For the Camp itself and the broader downtime loop, use the HUB and quests page. For the Quick Run toggle that lets you spam missions without the menu overhead, see the Quick Run page. Friendship is the slowest meta layer, but it is also the most permanent. Spend the runs on it once, and the bonuses keep paying.
