Achievements Guide

Yet Another Zombie Survivors has 229 Steam achievements split across eight categories. Story achievements (64 total) are new in 1.0. The rest span Survival, Map, Mode, Damage, Restriction, and Potato categories inherited from Early Access. Achievement rewards include new items, equipment, and cosmetics. This page does not list every unlock condition verbatim — the in-game Zombiepedia and Steam overlay are the live reference. Use this page to understand the shape of the achievement structure, which categories are fastest to close, and which ones punish specific play styles.

Achievement categories

Story achievements are the headline 1.0 feature. 64 new achievements track narrative progress through the main storyline and each survivor’s personal questline. They are tracked in the Mission Log inside the Camp. You do not need to complete every Story achievement to finish the game, but 100% completion requires finishing all narrative branches.

Survival achievements cover basic progression: clearing maps, reaching dawn, beating Hardcore, and unlocking modes. Map achievements reward finishing Default, Endurance, Infinite, and Boss Rush on each of the five arenas. Mode achievements track specific run types like One Hit and Extermination.

Damage achievements ask you to kill a precise number of enemies with specific weapons or abilities. Restriction achievements require clearing runs under self-imposed rules: no rescues, specific survivors only, or no items. Potato achievements are the joke category — the studio hid absurd conditions that range from picking the same survivor three times to dying in a specific location.

Quickest completions

Speedrun category: One Hit wins. Default clears. Hardcore clears. First Endurance to thirty minutes. First Boss Rush kill. These are all fifteen-to-twenty-minute grinds that most players will naturally accumulate within their first week of 1.0.

Map progression is the second fastest. Win Default on each map in sequence: Isolated City → Vile Wasteland → Green Hell → Dead Terminal → Bio Lab. The five maps unlock in order, and the default clear on each one ticks multiple achievements simultaneously.

Weapon-line achievements are slower. Rifle, shotgun, and rocket achievements each ask for hundreds of kills with the evolved form. These are passive grinds that happen inside normal Endurance runs. Do not grind them separately.

Hardest achievements

The rarest Steam completions at 1.0 are in the Restriction category. “True Solo” achievements require no rescues on Hardcore or Endurance. “Speed Demon” requires a sub-eight-minute Boss Rush kill. “No Items” Endurance past minute fifteen requires both a strong squad and the discipline to ignore chests.

Story achievements that require specific survivor questlines are time-gated by the Camp’s mission rotation. The Mission Log lets you retry missed missions, but completing all 64 Story achievements requires multiple full runs across different survivors. A single save cannot hold all progress simultaneously.

Potato achievements are studio jokes. “Curly Little Potato” asks you to collect three specific items in one run. “Why’d You Pick That?” rewards picking the same survivor three times in a row. These do not contribute to the main progression and exist for replay value.

Farming tips

Grind map achievements first because they naturally close as you play. Endurance to thirty minutes on each map unlocks both the mode and several survival achievements simultaneously.

Weapon achievements should be pursued inside Endurance rather than Default. The additional enemy density means more opportunities to accumulate kills on specific weapon lines without extending your session.

Story achievements benefit from using the Mission Log aggressively. After each run, check which missions were offered and which you missed. Retry missed missions before they rotate out of the pool.

Do not chase Potato achievements. They are the last category to close and do not gate anything.

Achievement rewards

Completing achievements unlocks items and equipment. The “Why’d You Pick That?” achievement rewards Great Nade. “Curly Little Potato” rewards Easter Egg. Other completionist achievements unlock Black Box, Jailbroken Phone, Silencer, Mana Potion, and other new 1.0 items. Achievement rewards stack with the Friendship system: completing Camp missions permanently boosts Cash and Specialization gains on top of item unlocks.

Pair this page with how to unlock survivors for the roster milestones that overlap with achievement chains. Pair it with the unlock checklist if you want a printable tracker for completionist runs.

The 229 achievements are not meant to be chased in a single session. Close categories in the order that matches your current goal: Story for narrative, Survival for basic progression, Damage for min-maxing your build, Restriction for bragging rights.
