Yet Another Zombie Survivors Torments
28 optional ultra-hard challenges for players who want to break the game on purpose.
Torments are the top difficulty layer in Yet Another Zombie Survivors 1.0. The studio added 28 optional ultra-hard challenges accessible through the Hall of Torments tab in the Achievements interface. They are completely disconnected from the achievement system: completing a Torment does not unlock anything except a personal bragging right. You do not need them to 100% the game. They exist for players who find the base game’s Hardcore and Endurance modes insufficiently punishing.
This page explains the Torment structure, how to access them, and what kind of squad and strategy each one demands. Torments are not balanced around casual play. They are balanced around players who have already mastered every other mode and are looking for a new ceiling.
What are Torments
Torments are modifier-based challenges that alter the rules of a run in specific ways. Each Torment applies one or more modifiers to the base game: increased enemy damage, reduced player damage, faster enemy spawns, removed weapon evolutions, locked survivor selection, or a combination of several at once. The 28 Torments range from “significantly harder than Hardcore” to “what the developers thought was funny.”
Unlike Hardcore, which is a timer with a fixed win condition, Torments define the win condition and the modifier independently. Some Torments ask you to clear a map in under a certain time. Others ask you to survive with half health, no healing items, or a squad made entirely of the same survivor. The studio designed each one to break a specific thing you thought you understood about the game.
Accessing the Hall of Torments
Open the Achievements interface and switch to the Hall of Torments tab. This tab appears after you complete at least one run of any kind. The challenges listed there do not require unlocking — they are visible from the start. You can attempt any Torment in any order.
Torments do not have their own run type in the mode selector. You select the base mode you want to run (Default, Hardcore, Endurance) and then activate the Torment from the Hall of Torments screen before starting. The modifiers apply immediately when the run begins.
Strategy framework
General approach to Torments: the modifier is the boss. If a Torment removes weapon evolutions, your damage ceiling drops to whatever your base weapons can produce. If a Torment halves your max HP, your effective Endurance drops to half the usual safe time. If a Torment locks you to one survivor, your squad flexibility disappears.
Build for the modifier first. Everything else is secondary. A standard SWAT-Engineer-Tank trio may not be optimal for a locked-survivor Torment. A crit-focused Huntress build may outperform a balanced trio in a time-pressure Torment. Read the modifier, then build for it.
